Ware Schools Seek Governors

National charity School Governors’ One-Stop Shop (SGOSS) has been approached by local schools to help recruit volunteers to fill their governor vacancies.

Volunteering to become a school governor is an excellent way to get involved in the local community. School governors do not need to have any special qualifications, have a high-powered job or be a parent - the most important quality is a real desire to help provide children with the best possible education, and be willing to work together as part of the team. Anyone aged 18 or over from any background, can attend an average of 2-4 evening meetings per term, can add tremendous value to a school’s governing body.

A governor’s role is to be a ‘critical friend’ to the head teacher whilst helping with the overall management of the school. School governors gain exposure to a range of responsibilities and have a unique opportunity to develop their own skill set. Training is available to all governors free or charge.

If you are interested in this challenging and ultimately rewarding role you can contact Pam Richardson, our Governor Placement Manager at the School Governors' One-Stop Shop on 020 7288 9539, or e-mail: pamala.richardson@sgoss.org.uk or visit www.sgoss.org.uk

Planning Committee now meets every  3 weeks

The frequency of Planning Committee meetings increases from every 4 weeks to every 3 weeks from 1 April. This change enables the Council to submit comments on all planning applications to East Herts Council within the three week consultation period. Members of the public wishing to address the committee should check the calendar of meetings first because some meetings commence at 6.30pm while others begin at 7.30pm
