Youth town councils are all about empowering young people to influence local decision making and many town and parish councils in England and Wales have already established a youth council for their area. Now Ware Town Council plans to set up a youth town council, or youth town forum, the name has still to be agreed, which will enable young people to express their views to those people that can make a difference.
Working in partnership with local groups such as the town and district councils, we hope that the Ware Youth Town Council will ensure that policy development includes a consideration of the needs of young people.
Town Councillor Katie Little and District Councillor Will Quince are leading on this project with the support of Andrew Kilmartin, the area youth worker.
Following a very successful initial meeting earlier this year with four young people from Chauncey and PresdalesSchools, a follow up meeting is planned in September when the schools return from thier summer holidays to progress this initiative.
